The best of intentions
What a day. Our flight was delayed 3 hrs due to wind in both Ottawa and New York. We missed our connection and there was no room on our standby flight.
We have a room at the Mariott tonight in New Jersey. We are back at the airport for 5AM for a flight to Salt Lake City and a connection to Vegas for noon all going well.

You poor thing. I had a misadventure like that myself once. The good news is that your luggage is probably already at your destination, wondering where the heck you are.
Sometimes you're better off checking yourself in as freight.
