From Here to There

My journey in fitness from here (not so good!) to there (woohooo!!)

Citizens of Ottawa? That 25cm of snow we're expecting overnight? My fault. We bought these pretty babies last weekend, and I've been dying to try them out. They are made to run in!
My running is still sporadic at best, and I'm struggling to get a decent 5k in. Still coughing, getting over the flu from 5 weeks ago. It's a lulu. To hopefully guard against any other nasty flus this year I got my flu shot yesterday. My arm hurts. Wuss.

Today's run was lousy, which I think had to do with the flu shot. I've been feeling draggy all day. I still ran 75% of my run today, and I'm happy with that. Tuesday's run in the snow/rain was brutal too! I should have worn my Elmer Fudd hat. That would have made it much more bearable. It's too bad I ran through puddles up to my ankles not once, but twice. Yay me!

On the sched for this week - work, hopefully a couple of runs, a little strength training, a movie (colleague invited me to one she won passes for) and some Christmas shopping. I did a little online yesterday and that's about it.

I'd better get to the kitchen and make some breakfast bars, prep some carrots and celery for lunches, then iron my clothes for the week. Tomorrow, while Steve is playing with our new snowblower, I'm a-goin' shoein'! Wheeeee!

I had a date!

It's been so long since Steve and I went anywhere or did anything... I think we saw a movie over Christmas, but I'd been feeling so lousy before the surgery, and so lousy afterwards, that I didn't want to do anything.

We had planned to go out last weekend but we had some snow. After last Wednesday's foot, we woke up to a little over 2 feet!

This was the view from the patio door. The patio door is 4 steps up from the ground, the snow is higher than that. It was gorgeous! You can almost see our neighbour's little fence. Hope he doesn't let the doggies out because they'd be gone!

And from the front door, let's just say when we're standing next to the cars, we can't see our neighbours on either side. Reversing out of the laneway is a challenge too, the snowbanks are now at least 8 feet high :D. Oh, and we've had several inches since, with more to come next week. We may indeed break Ottawa's annual snow record from 1972!

So back to the date. Steve went for a run with some of last year's Gotta Run team, and was given a preview pass to see 'Run Fatboy Run'. It's got Shaun from Shaun of the Dead! The movie won't win any awards, but it was really really cute. Made me want to run! But that will be a later post. In researching what I could eat at the movie, I discovered that a large buttered popcorn (20 cups) has as much fat as 8 Big Macs. EIGHT. Without the topping? 6 Big Macs. YUCK. Now I've never been able to eat my way through a large in one sitting, but always brought my bag home for the next day. I LOVE movie popcorn. I think those days are long gone! Even a small popcorn (7 cups) without topping is too much. I'll stick to my homemade stuff from now on! I settled for a pretzel and mustard. Not as good as the ones at the hockey games, but good enough. And much better for me! We had a lovely time, and life felt NORMAL. Awesome :)

I'm glad we had thanksgiving already

because I wouldn't be able to eat anything if I lived in the U.S. :( However, it looks like Christmas is going to be good-food free too. Let the weight loss continue then.

I've been feeling pretty good all week, no acute pain, just a constant ache (feels like a bruise). Unfortunately, all day today it's more than an ache, it's a pretty darn unhappy gallbladder. No idea why - my fat intake has remained the same as the past few days, that is less than 12 g per day. Maybe I'm eating more, because my appetite started to come back a couple of days ago. I wish this pain would stop, I'm day 6 of 10 of my antibiotics. I thought I'd feel amazing by now.

Maybe it's my flu shot? I saw my GP yesterday, I didn't bother canceling my appt because I wanted to get a requisition for an x-ray on my foot. Since I'm not running, I may as well rehab this puppy. Anyhoodle, at the end of my appt I asked if it was ok to have a flu shot. So I got one. Within 15 mins I had a big lump in my throat and felt woozy. They had me lie down, and took my BP - 168/100. Hmmm... that's not good! They repeated the BP another 5 times with the machine, and my average was 140/80. Still not great, but I really wanted out of there. They didn't think I was reacting to the shot, the doc thinks it was Vasovagal Syncope, um ok. Of course I googled it when I got home and discovered it's a fancy word for fainting. Hahahahah! I don't think it was though, my throat was weird and my tongue furry all afternoon, and by 3PM I was weezing pretty badly. It went away by evening. I think I reacted a little to the shot. Greaaaaaat. And today my arm hurts like a mofo! My daughter had a doc appt today, and had her flu shot. She didn't react, though I noticed that she coughed a lot this afternoon (she worked from home today) and she mentioned at dinner that it was odd too. Of course her arm doesn't hurt. But she didn't shovel a foot of snow from the laneway tonight either!

Happy Thanksgiving to my friends to the south! I spent the day on modified sick leave, it's not too busy because the U.S. is off, so I watched the Hitchcock film fest on AMC. Woot!
