From Here to There

My journey in fitness from here (not so good!) to there (woohooo!!)

Ok, so I messed up the pictures.

I've got some gardening to do :)

The Dot

Yesterday my friend Catherine and I went to the model home for yet another viewing. As we were leaving I spoke with the agent and we now have a 'dot' on the map. The house is being held for us!

Steve and I went today and were able to go in and see it.

Ours is the door that you see on the right, and the garage with the truck in front. The truck is there belonging to someone else, partked there temporarily. Whatever! I don't care :)

The back... Ours is the first set of steps and windows to the left. Not big, but big enough. And it will be ours!

Some smaller images... From upstairs to the main floor. Before I discovered I needed the flash I took the middle photo of the living room are and morning room. The one on the right is from the front doorway... on the right is the stairway to upstairs, the left is the dining room, the window area the living room and to the left the kitchen and morning room.

Lastly, one of Steve in the morning room, and KT's basement digs. Yes, she gets a fireplace.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed everything goes to plan. We got the mortgage, so feeling ok! 1870 sq ft' :) Yay!

My first home (of our own).

Wooop!

We're here for a good time

Still sick. I have not had a cold like this in years. I'm falling apart! It's now stuck in my chest and sinuses. I'm so tired.

And I have not done anything workout wise this past week. I am really disappointed with this, but I barely had the energy to finish my work day (well, didn't really, had to take naps during lunch breaks and after work). I even missed JAVA class on Monday night :( I'm still really tired, and standing for an hour almost killed me.

I know this because last night I went to see the Northern Pikes (she's a girl with a problem) and Trooper (raise a little hell) at the Tulip Festival last night. But I was prepared with layers of fleece and a $1.49 Canadian Tire plastic poncho. It was a lot of fun, but I really wanted to lie on the soaking wet grass and sleep.

On another note, just watched Ray on CBC News: Sunday. He's such a cool guy. How did my trainer get to be the primo Canadian ultra runner? Because he's awesome. If you're interested in following his blog it's at http://ecofit.blogspot.com/.

Puleeze let it be allergies!

I have a sore throat. Maybe I did get chilled on Friday night in the rain (though we had so much fun). Yesterday had a horrible headache, and I feared I might be heading toward a bug.

I had a great 45 minute run on the treadmill today, followed by a 15 minute cool down walk. Then did a bit of work, then hopped the bus downtown to the Tulip Festival. Unfortunately, it's still rainy and cold, which dampened the number of people attending the outdoor concert (saw Tom Wilson, Murray McLaughlin and Stephen Fearing). I wasn't dressed warm enough for the heavier rains, and got chilled again. Steve arrived at after work (6:3o), and I cuddled up to him while we ate Indian. The heat from that helped a lot! :)

After the show we walked around looking at the tulips, the painted tulip sculptures, the art, and the Byward Market. Then raced back to the 'burbs (10 minutes away... Ottawa is so small!) to do grocery, and came home to my daughter and her dad eating chinese food and watching The Sopranos. I'm glad we're all cool :)

Off to bed, my throat is none-too-happy with me right now.

At least I got a walk in!

Yesterday I snuck out of work early (ooooh 4PM!) and hopped on a bus with my daughter to go shopping for work clothes for her. She scored an awesome summer student job as a technical writer (she's just finished 1st year university in communications). I tell ya, she's charmed. So we shopped, and wandered around the big mall downtown, ate too much, so decided to walk part of the way home. It was raining so I bought an umbrella, KT had her jacket with the duck bill and we started.

Oh my. It was pouring, my umbrella turned inside out 4 times in 15 minutes. We were both soaked. We walked 90 minutes before we decided it was time to catch the next bus. Came home soaked and cold. We had so much fun, singing loudly and trying not to blow away. Today we both feel like death :)

I didn't drink enough yesterday, and this morning I'm all puffed up. Scale shows it too. Off for mexican food later (brother's birthday) and an outdoor concert in the rain (Xavier Rudd).

My inspiration

This is Ray. Once upon a time he was my trainer. And an awesome trainer he is (in addition to winner of many world class ultra races). Unfortunately, I got busy, he got busy, and we stopped seeing each other.

Today after my run (5.5k making me think morning runs will start next week because I hate the heat), discouraged with my fat self, I thought of Ray, and his awesome strength/core plan. I dug it out. I did it all. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, which is good I guess, but we'll revisit this thought tomorrow. 50 minutes of strength training.

Thanks Ray!

Woohoo!

One little package of these babies arrived in my mailbox this morning... how exciting to find out we can buy them in Canada now! wooooop! Yes, I ate it, but honestly, it was more than what I needed, which is awesome, because I could eat 3 reg. cookies (I think it's near 250 cals), but would be satisfied with half a bag (50 cals). I'm going shopping tomorrow!!

Oh, and ran 5k on the treadmill between meetings. Note to self, must get bluetooth headset to allow me to run through meetings on the VoIP.

and KT asks...

how do you spell grope. Hmm... wonder what happened when she went out last night!?!

Steve and I went out for my friend's 30th birthday (I feel so old). We had a great time! I kept my eating in check, salad, water with lime, and barely 1/3 of my pasta.

Yesterday also included one hour of tai chi. Fun! But my legs sure felt it!

Today I slugged around various blogs getting caught up, then decided at noon it was time to run, and my brother calls... picking you up in an hour to swim ok? OK! So hopped on the treadmill, plodded 5k while watching Buffy, hopped in the shower for a very quick rinse then hit the pool. It was a very sweaty basement run! We were at the pool 90 minutes, but I didn't swim that long. In all about 30, which I'm happy with. Shamu the lane hog was really ticking me off, extremely slow (which isn't the problem) but zig zagging across lanes. Then when I'd pass her I'd be stuck at the other end waiting for her to finish, so she turns around! I'm not going to stay there for another 5 minutes waiting for you to to finish, so I passed her. ugh, and the waves she creates! ARGH. Anyway, glad I got the swim in, looking forward to next week when my Carleton pool is open!

Off to do tai chi for a bit and watch the Desperate Ho's.

my aching head

Another 14 hour day in front of the monitor. This job ends today. New job starts tomorrow. Why does new job have 2.5 hours of training colleague from old job? I'm going to have to talk to my boss (former as of right now) and tell him he's just not cutting it. I'm up to 17.5 hours of training. Took me 3 to grasp it. But I worked on it. I don't know what the heck he's doing.

At any rate, yesterday KT and I got in a walk of over an hour. It was too beautiful out to call it a full rest day.

And today I finally had light feet on my lunchtime 5k run. At least that's what it felt like. Unfortunately, it was the first time I ever felt self-conscious about my size. Go figure.

Off to bed before my head explodes.
