Getting there...

I'm really happy to say that I made my run today. Another 5k, walked every KM for 100m, and got stopped at 2 red lights. I can't wait to run in my new neighborhood! No lights and lots of greenspace, though the sidewalks are concrete. Guess who's going to be running on the grass?! I've already plotted my route. But I digress... the run today didn't feel anywhere nearly as bad as Saturday's though my heart rate is still very high for me, and I was a wheezing manica. I soldiered on and finished the 5k in 35:13, still slower than normal by a few minutes, but 5 minutes faster than Saturday's fiasco!

I'm really excited about the First Annual Phedippidations World Wide Half Marathon http://steverunner.com/halfmarathon.htm? Just my luck that it coincides with the hilliest half in Ottawa, otherwise I could have chosen my own route. But I'm in! Fingers crossed that I don't get sick again :) I'm registering as part of the Phedippidations team, so that I can race with my friend Joe from Texas. :) I'd love company!

6 more down

See that little sucker on the right? Yup, a couple of puffs of that and I'd be able to run. I swear that's all it would take. But because of my good friend Wenckebach putting a name to my heart affliction, I can't take it! Even though it's alcohol free (not allowed any booze because of Dr. Wencke either), it's still off the list. So I take time off and try to rest my lungs.

Today's goal was run 5k straight, and add on whatever I could. It's a gorgeous day and I was feeling optimistic. I should have drunk the rest of my half full glass and stayed in bed. At 1k I knew that 5k straight was out of the question. So I walked .1k. Then ran to 2k. And walked .1k. I was miserable, but thought that taking a 100m walk break every km would get me through. Nope. My heart rate was 15 bpm too high, I was coughing and sputtering goo. It was nasty. My lofty 1k/100m routine was brought down to 500m/100m. I was now more miserable. At last my 5k was done, in a sad 40 minutes. C'est la vie. Steve was off doing 8 or 9, so I walked a clip then decided to run to meet him. Before I made it to 5.75k he was done. Yes kids, he did 8 easy in the time it took me to do 5.75. By the time I caught up to him I had done 6km. And called it a day.

I'm going to do weight training tomorrow, to save the lungs, and try to get another run in on Monday.

10 days already?

I can't believe it's been that long since I've posted. Since this supposed to be my workout blog, I guess it makes sense. :(

The few runs I had *after* my cold, were lousy thanks to nagging asthma problems. Because of 'Wenckebach' I'm not allowed to use a puffer, so I try not to aggravate it. Needless to day, it's getting the best of me.

The house stuff continues to plow ahead. We chose the interiors last week. Had relatives in from Ireland the past 10 days, it was wonderful to see them! Hard without Mom, especially since Uncle Joe is so much like her, but in a sense it was like having Mom back for 10 days, which warmed my heart.

Still wheezing like crazy, but going to do my best to run 8k tomorrow morning. Not sure how I'm going to be able to do that, since I have zero motivation (even the 10K in 11 days isn't doing it), zero energy, and gained a couple of pounds, I'd prefer to crawl into a bag of popcorn (which I did this evening, but it was a 100 calorie Orville's, so not too damaging!).

To add to the crap, my work hard drive died last night, and I fear they won't be able to recover some of my personal files. Since I'm in a new job, I'm not too concerned about the historical stuff from the old one truth be told. And I don't have much other than historical emails from my new job. We do have online nightly backups, but with storage of only 100MB, and mine fails every night. Ugh. Today was spent getting contivity on the home PC and getting into our work webmail, which bites. Got nothing done.

Please send positive vibes in my general direction for my run tomorrow! I need to get out there. I can't stand this!!

Slight change of plans

Well, we decided to buy the house on lot N-648 right? But it seemed smaller than the model. So we measured to compare to 3 other same units. The finished (well drywalled) basement WAS 1 foot short! They can fix that. Ok. The staircase at the front is too close to the opposite wall. Yup, FOUR inches short! They positioned the stairway too far.

Forget it. We're not getting this house :( I'm not paying the same as my neighbors to have a stairway I'll never be happy with!

Sooooo.... we bought the house next door! This one's an end unit (we're in an end now, and yes, more expensive to heat, but has a window on the side!). We fell in love with it immediately.

Pictures here.

Today, we bought our first house. Steve has had many, but this is my first EVER.

WOOOOOOOP!!!!

Blogger's a pain in the butt

I've been trying to post for 3 days. Anyway, here now.

I ran on Wednesday morning. I felt too lousy to get my run in on Tuesday (and truth be told, it was too hot by the time my head cleared). I woke Steve at 7AM (he was closing) and off we went. It was brutal :( again :(. My heartrate, while not as high as Sunday's was still hovering around 165. All I could manage was 4.8k. Bugger.

Today wasn't much better. My HR averaged 157 (ok, better, but not where it should be) and it took everything in me to get in 5k. I just can't seem to get air in my lungs.

8k on Sunday. Here's hoping it continues to improve!

Tomorrow, I put in the offer on my house :)

Oh ya...

Ray's team won the Gobi March team competition. Yay Ray!!

6 in the books

What a day. Such high hopes for my first run in 3 weeks! This cold has completely floored me. Sinuses are still a little infected, lungs not clear, but I NEEDED to get out.

My aim was for 6k. Just 6. It started off really well! I felt great. But my HRM read 165. HUH?? Then 175, then 195... I even saw 235 once. I was thinking "I'm just not sweaty enough". After 1k in the head, I knew I was sweaty enough. The numbers still jumped around way above my normal 145-155. I kept at it, but decided to turn around at 2.5, just in case.

Good plan. I felt lousy. Running through fog was how it felt, I was a little worried about passing out, but it felt better to run than to walk. At least when you run you expect your heart rate to be high! At 5k I decided to walk the last km to cool down. 155 :(. It was getting pretty bad so I got to the car and stretched, then sat in the A/C. After 30 minutes my HR was under 120 so I decided to drive. When I got home I laid down and it dropped to 110 and stayed hovering there for an hour or so, then I fell asleep (!!), and when I woke it was 75. Still too high, but comfortable. I KNOW I can't sleep if it's running above 90, so I guess it dropped and my tired self dropped too :)

I really have to find out if running a high heart rate while lying down burns as many calories as if I was exercising to get that rate...

I think the trigger was the cold. I'm just not well enough (I guess) to have tried this today. When I get sick my heartrate gets a little funny, i.e. I feel it. But I feel it pretty much all the time.

I'm left with a fuzzy head. Ran a stop sign after picking up Steve. Glad to be home. :)
