From Here to There

My journey in fitness from here (not so good!) to there (woohooo!!)

This and That

I've been wanting to write something for a while, but haven't had a heck of a lot going on.

It snowed, a lot, and then it got pretty warm and melted most of it, then snowed a lot again. Today's was really pretty - shoveled 6 inches or so of the really sparkly kind at 6PM. Love that stuff. And it was light and fluffy. And not cold. :)

Had a birthday a little over a week ago, and happy to report I was much better than last year! We had a lovely brunch at my brother's house, where KT entertained us on her cousin's new keyboard "Thank you, I'm here all week". We don't do birthday gifts in our family (at least the adults don't) as we all have enough stuff, so we always get together. Because of my restricted diet, I had toast. My brother did give me lovely purple tulips. So pretty!

I did receive lovely gifts from Steve and KT. Steve lives in fear of upsetting me now after last year's birthday party sadness, so he went safe (smart boy :)) and bought me Season 3 of LOST. 9 more days until it's on! KT bought me books, can't go wrong with books. My ex-hubby bought me a 'gotta have more cowbell' t-shirt, and little black cowbell, which was a surprise. Pictures to come at another time since Steve has the camera at work.

Speaking of Steve, he bought me flowers this week. Just because. Awwwwwww :) They are lovely. I love flowers when it's snowing out!

No other news really. I'm dying to run, but my body just won't let me. I was feeling amazing for 14 days, then decided to do a serious house cleaning, and my gallbladder has been killing me since. Anytime I try to do something more than sit on my butt all day, or as I tell KT when she asks what my plans for the day are: "well first I'm going to sit here, and later, I'm going to sit over there". :( 9 more days and it's out. Can't wait. All going well I think I'll be ok to start running again in 2 weeks, though the pre-op literature says 4 weeks for strenuous activity. But if I start over doing 1/1, for only 20 minutes, that's not strenuous is it? Please?

Goals shmoals

I had such high hopes for 2007. Didn't work out that way.

I didn't achieve any of them! I was doing really well with my training, had a few setbacks, but overall, by November I was fairly consistent and feeling great! I returned to racing, with a lousy time, but I'm thrilled with it. Haven't run since November, but can't wait to get back to it - goal date to return, starting at the very beginning again, is Feb 14, two weeks post op.

I've lost 20 lbs thanks to this gallbladder by cutting out almost all the fat in my diet - to less than 15 g per day (I don't add any fat to anything, and anything packaged for example I won't touch unless it's under 6 g of fat.) I'm also eating way less, and more variety. This inconvenience is a blessing in disguise! I can lose weight :) I just need to get serious about it. I can't wait to see what running feels like with 20 lbs less! I bet it's going to suck, because I'm so out of shape, but it will have to (please!!) feel easier than last January at 20 lbs heavier!

My running goals for the year are to get fit again, uninjured as follows:

May - solid 5k
July - solid 10k
Fall - half marathon

I'd be really happy to get a du in there, but I want my bike fitted first. I feel terribly out of control on Beethoven!

40 new things didn't work out so well. For a good part of the year we were a one car family and our bus service was lousy (we got the second car in March, and bus service improved in Sept) so I just didn't seem to have the opportunity to do everything I wanted to. I also really wanted to do a lot of it with Steve, and he did not have a good year, with opening two stores (never home) and breaking his leg. I hope this year he can achieve his goals without injury, and will be home more!

So that's it. Nothing fancy!

I guess it's about time

It's been over a month since my last post? Time flies.

December was a busy month. Frantically trying to close out my old job, unsucessfully I might add, because people don't seem to understand when you say "as of this date, I no longer support this application, and it won't be decided until sometime in Q1 who/if someone else will". These words must show up as white in all emails, because no one seems to see them. I have a feeling I'll be stuck with this the rest of my career here.

I have a job. I should be grateful.

And I am. I'm just ready to start my new one!! Not much happening yet on that front, though we are only back two days. I'm sure tomorrow, after our second team meeting, and now that the powers that be have made some decisions, everything will be moving at a frantic rate yet again.

Steve's Mom came to visit over Christmas. I was great to have her. I must say, this lady does not overstay her welcome! She arrives in the late afternoon of the 24th, and is on the road at sunrise the 26th. I would take this personally, but apparently she's always done this. I blame Steve ;)

I can't believe we didn't take one picture over Christmas! Too busy I guess! Very busy before the holidays with the baking, shopping and getting the house up to snuff, the 26th I tidied up, then read most of the day. My tummy has been unhappy with me since Christmas, my guess is I had a little too much fat along the way, and not enough rest. Thankfully, yesterday I realized it didn't hurt anymore! Yay!!

New Years was low key - my sister and hubby came over for a few hours. Steve is exhausted from all the OT he's been pulling (retail manager), and I was pooped too from (can't think of anything), so we were both snoozing in the new year by 10PM! Party animals!

I haven't seen Steve since, he's been prepping for inventory (tomorrow) and working from 6AM - 10PM every day. I miss him! Of course his car decided it was time to conk out, so he's been driving mine since Wed. I need groceries!! If the used cam shaft fixes the problem, we're facing an $800 bill. If not, well, I don't want to think about it. I keep telling myself that it's cheaper than leasing. Fingers crossed!

If it gets any brighter today I will spot paint the walls later. We have a few scuffs and dings (patched yesterday) collected over the last 17 months. I was hoping to have this done before we had our Christmas company, but there really wasn't time, nor did I have the energy.

Happy New Year!
